Hi Everyone! I would love to have stories/anecdotes about Mom and Dad from their youth; mainly before marriage to each other. If you have a favorite one from after marriage, that's fine too. When I think about them, I really don't know much about their growing up years. I do know that Mom used to say that if we got good grades it was because of Dad's good brains being handed down. The stories/anecdotes don't have to be long, and any info is greatly appreciated. With both of their anniversaries coming up in a few days/weeks, it could be a nice way to remember them.
Love to all!
Susie

What little I believe I remember hearing is that Mom lived in a hotel on the downtown side of the Miami River on Brickell Avenue. I think it was somewhat common for families to reside in hotels at the time. As for Dad, I recall him saying after growing up in Cleveland he never wanted to see snow again. Also, Mom said Dad never wanted to go back to Gainesville because of the way he was treated after winning the school's annual debate championship. Apparently, the winner was supposed to be invited to Blue Key or some such thing but that never happened. I recall Howard Haggerty telling me that everyone at Gesu know they were meant for each other and were not surprised when they married. I also recall hearing that Grandad Kane was not pleased with the marriage.
I think that someone has a copy of the Gesu yearbook from the time that they were both attending. I believe that they worked on it together or that one of them did, but can't recall.
Wow did not know any of that info. I always thought Dad worked too hard at G'ville and that's why he didn't want to go back. Thanks for the stories. I have a feeling more will come out if we ever get to have another reunion!
