VIVIAN ROHAN POWERS ST. FRANCIS TO SENIOR DAY WIN

It was a beautiful autumn day in Alphareta, Ga. as the St. Francis Knights honored their seniors at the Senior Day softball game.  Our own Vivian Rohan was one of the honored seniors.

...and she was chosen to throw out the first pitch.

Then to the cheering of family members and friends she led off the game with a single and came around to score the first run - stealing second, third and home on the way.  For the game, Vivi was the star, going 4 for 4 at the plate, with 4 runs scored, 8 stolen bases, and 1 RBI, leading St. Francis to a blow-out, 14-2, win.

Another Dedicated Nurse

You can add another name to the list of dedicated nurses who have come from our family.  Summer passed her Boards earlier this month and has taken a position at the Mayo Clinic in Jax Beach.  She began working in the ICU department this week and has moved into a lovely townhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, just minutes away from the hospital and the ocean.

Retired

After nearly 16 years providing legal education on behalf of The Fund, I have retired.  I plan to spend more time with the grandkids and their parents, travel a bit, and get started on the lengthy to-do list and hobbies I have put aside for all these years.  Lisa and I long considered this step and we are happy to take it as I begin my new career as a busy, but retired senior citizen.

Summer's Graduation

And another grandchild moves forward…this past weekend was a memorable one for Summer and the rest of our family.  Last Thursday, she competed in the Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Championships in the 10K event where she set a personal best, and on Saturday, skipping graduation, she competed in the 3K race, finishing second on her team.

On Monday, because of the conflict with the school’s graduation which was held on Saturday, a special graduation ceremony was held for all of the athletes who were unable to attend on Saturday. At that time Summer was presented with her Bachelor of Nursing Degree and will be flying off to Denver to begin her career in a few months after which we all moved to Summer’s house where Tiffany threw a lavish farewell party for all of the graduates and their families.

Congratulations, Summer...and Tiffany and Antar...it was a family affair.

EARTHDAY/BIRTHDAY

Earth Day was a wonderful occasion to celebrate Georgia's 75th Birthday; and she did it up in style in High Springs with family and friends (and a few exes).  The weather was beautiful, the food was plenty, and the beer flowed all day.  Topping off the event, Bob and Lisa held a Sunday morning brunch for all, with  More Family and Friends and More Food and Drink.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GEORGIA and BLESSINGS TO MOTHER EARTH.

Lauren Surgery Update

We want to thank everyone for their incredible generosity, support, prayers, and wishes. It has been about a week since Lauren completed her first surgery, and she is recovering very well. The doctors are very pleased with the results, and are scheduling her next surgery for the end of July. We all know this is going to be a long process, but with Lauren's strength, and all the support she's received, we know she will endure and conquer whatever comes her way. We wish to thank everyone again.

Update for Susie

While celebrating Georgia’s birthday in Gainesville with many of our family, I had an incident where I lost my short term memory. Luckily, I was out walking with Bob and Lisa when it happened. They took such good care of me! They got me to a clinic of north Florida hospital and checked into the hospital for observation and more tests. Everything terrible was ruled out, and the diagnosis is Transient Global Amnesia. It has a recurrence rate of 10% which I can live with! I’ll get a follow up with my GP, but barring anything else, I can just go on doing all of the things I normally do. So if you haven’t heard, I’m sorry to take so long to post. If you have known and sent me good wishes and prayers, thank you. I can highly recommend Bob and Lisa as caregivers!

It was so good to see so much family at the river and for the brunch at Bob and Lisa’s house. Looking forward to seeing pictures….

Happy Birthday Neil

Hope its the best yet.  Miss you.

I am in complete Awe at the sear volume of donations we have received as well as the passionate support from friends, family and our community some of whom have never had the benefit of meeting Lauren.  I struggled with the decision to create this GoFundMe as I tend to be a private person but managed to swallow my pride for the greater benefit of my daughter and family.

This experience has been overwhelming in so many ways, it has shown me how strong my daughter is physically and emotionally as well as how amazing my wife, as she has been there for me in ways, I never knew were possible.  We are moving forward and scheduling surgeries and see a point when Lauren is no longer in pain every day and is able to experience a more normal life.

Once again, I want to thank each and every one who has supported my daughter whether it was through donations, prayers or well wishes.  It has been an emotional rollercoaster and I would not be here right now without all the love and support.  If you would like more information or help support, please visit our GoFundMePage

Lauren Rohan Needs your Help and Prayers

 Hello Friends and Family,

It is with heavy heart and great optimism that I am creating this Fund Raiser. As many of you know my daughter Lauren Rohan, has been battling several diseases since early childhood, including Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Crohn’s Disease and Gastroparesis.

She has been receiving medical care since the first diagnosis, but those medications and treatments come with multiple side effects and unintended consequences. Many of you will remember her Quinceanera, a beautiful and enjoyable event just days after Lauren was discharged from the hospital where she had been admitted for rapid weight loss and an inflamed and swollen intestinal track, with slight perforations. Through the miracle of Prednisone she was refitted for her dress and danced the night away.
Fast forward to today, now, after years of treatments and medications, the side effects have caused deterioration of her teeth and jaw. Lauren needs a complete jaw replacement and arch reconstruction. This includes the extraction of ALL of her teeth, to be replaced with dental implants.

This will be a very painful and long process. While Lauren is mentally prepared and understands the challenges she is going to face for the rest of her life, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, apparently, does not consider “teeth” and the “ability to eat,” “medical necessities” and refuses to cover any associated costs. Without insurance coverage, our estimated out of pocket expenses right now are well in excess of $190,000. Last year we spent just over $18,000 trying to save her teeth with multiple root canals, crowns and individual implants. That process has now come to an end, with multiple oral surgeons having informed us that we really only have one way forward, the way outlined above. Due to current infections in her teeth and gums, we have to follow through with their advice, while simultaneously, continuing to fight for insurance coverage. We are hoping to raise as much as possible toward Lauren’s healthcare needs, to give her the best opportunities available. She will turn 19 years old on April 7th, shortly after which she will complete her second year of college at Coastal Carolina. Positive thoughts and prayers, would likewise be greatly appreciated! MANY THANKS & MUCH LOVE!!!

I know our family has many technically and medically inclined members, so I have listed the medical coding of the necessary procedures.

We set up a Go Fund Me with the link below. Prayers and we'll wishes are greatly appreciated also.

Cousin Mac

I spoke with Katie (Pat's wife) this past weekend and she told me that Mac had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer late last year.  She said he was operated on around Christmastime and was now home recuperating.  Once he has, he will begin chemo.  She said the type of pancreatic cancer Mac suffers from has a 95% survival rate.

Bob, Katie mentioned that you and Lisa had a chance to visit with Mac earlier this month, so any additional information you may have please, let us know.

Evelyn began riding lessons a little over a year ago and competed last Sunday in an equestrian show in Alpharetta, Georgia.  This was her second show and she was competing in the Walk and Trot event.  She finished in Third Place.
