HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOOKENDS

Happy Birthday to the oldest and the youngest, Mike and Kathy. Anybody have access to the picture of Kathy and Mike on their first shared birthday? I always loved that one. It was great that you guys shared a birthday...I knew I had to squeeze everyone's ages in between those 18 years. Hope you both had a good day. Miss you all very much.

Love,

Susie and family

Today's Date Always Reminds Me. . .

Not exactly sure how it is, but I always love this day, the 23rd of November.  My first real vivid memory of mom and dad's anniversary was a year in which it occurred on Thanksgiving Day - maybe 1967.  There was so much activity going on with the holiday, but I will always remember wishing them a happy anniversary and the look between them. I saw it - the look of love!

Memories

i think it would be fun to write down memories of mom or dad...  things which might be unique to yourself growing up

for ex

dad’s  unique whistle to call us home (i liked your comment larry)

rosie had mentioned meals with tomato/rice

or meat on toast

mom telling WD if they were to open on Sunday she would shop somewhere else

i weirdly have begun making iced tea to drink in the afternoons(mom always had a cup of iced tea close by) i know that’s not genetic but where did that come from?

mom and her convertibles and the bug - you could see the joy in her eyes when she drove those

baseball or golfing memories. does anyone remember leaving a marlins game, running to the car after it was over and Bill running into a huge backstop and flying backwards?

just thought it might be fun

Home Grown

About 8 - 10 years ago Oliver drove from Colorado where he was living with his brothers back to the Spring Hill Homestead.  With his belongings, he also brought the precious cargo of home grown avocado trees - 2.  Both Tyler had started from seed and grown and babied in Boulder.  They were a few feet tall at the time of Oliver's arrival, and Tyler told me that 1 was a Haas variety (I think purchased at the supermarket) and the other a large, organic one purchased at the farmers market in Boulder.  Well, the little Haas is still growing but was/is affected by the winters here in Spring Hill more than the larger variety.  Today the little Haas is about 10 - 12 feet high and seems to be coming into its own now that the trees in the backyard were cut back; the larger Haas is, well I have no idea how tall it is now.😊

Today was the very first year that the large Haas blossomed and I was sure they would just blow away. BUT, they didn't and it fruited wonderfully.  Lost a couple to mother nature, and a couple weeks ago the garbage bandits (raccoons) discovered the soon-to-be ripe fruit was ripe enough for them.  I had intended to harvest them this month, but had to pick them sooner because they munched down at least 4 before I realized the tree was under night attacks.  The fruit is delicious and I look forward to the next crop.  Total harvested in 2020 (post bandits) was 15. Now I just need to figure out how to keep the bandits out of the backyard.

P.S. Happy birthday, Thelma. May all your dreams come true. 💓

Same Team

September 11th was one of the most horrible days of my lifetime. And yet, despite the tragedy, every September 11th that followed served as a reminder that on 9/11/2001 Americans came together as Americans, put aside our differences and joined the Same Team.

Tomorrow, September 12th, we will go back to our separate teams and resume the political sniping that comes with every election season.

But for now, everyone just needs to chill out and reflect.

Thanks to all who serve

On this Memorial Day I would like to thank all of those who are presently serving or who have served in the military.   You have served in order to defend our Freedoms and our Lives.  We  are not exactly a military family, though we have had members from at least three generations wear the uniform.  Dad, of course served in the Army during the second world war and I believe that mom's brother, Tom, served as well and lost his life in the war.  I am not sure as to our uncles Bob or Harold,  who would have been of age.  Mike, Neil, and Antar served in the Air Force and Tim served in the Marines, all during the years of numerous wars in the Middle East and around the world.  (Antar is also currently serving as an EMT and a member of the Fire Department in Chatahooche, Fl.)

And now, currently serving are Tim, who is taking over from his father in the Air Force, and Claire, who has recently or will in the near few weeks take her commission in the Marines, following in her father's footsteps.  All of these family members deserve our sincere thanks for defending our country and our personal freedoms.

There may be others in the family who have served or are presently serving and I would wish that if any of you know of these deserving family members, please sign on and let us all know who they are.

And lest anyone forget, we do have a relative who served in the Civil War, that and man was Comfort La Rue. Born in 1846, he enlisted in the Union Army, joining Company C of the Ohio 135th Infantry Regiment on May 13th 1864.  He is buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery.

So again, thanks to all of you who proudly wear or have worn the uniform.  You have our deep gratitude.

Caroline Recovering Well

Caroline continues to improve at North Florida Regional.  She's in a separate ICU from the Covid patients, but unfortunately neither Greg nor any other family members are allowed in to see her.  She and Greg are very thankful for all the prayers offered up for her recovery.  Here are a couple of pictures of Blaise enjoying his new role as big brother.

Caroline Update

Caroline is out of surgery and coming out of anesthesia.  Greg says she is responsive and he will get to see her shortly.  Thank you for all your prayers.  Here is a picture of Ollie Laurence and his proud parents from a few days ago.

Caroline needs prayers

After giving birth to a beautiful baby boy a few days ago Caroline has been admitted into the hospital this morning to remove a mass from her brain.  She has been experiencing symptoms for several weeks and last night the doctors drained some liquid from the brain and will operate this morning.  Please say some prayers for her.

Family News - Oregon and CA

Hi all,
We are doing well, holed up in our home for probably another two weeks at least. We have a friend shopping once a week for us and we have enough wood for heating the house, electricity, lots of games, a good, quiet walking road, access to movies, and living from the heart as a daily practice.

They grow up fast, so wanted to keep you posted on our grandchild -
Oregon is now asking all citizens to stay home, as of today. They are doing well with the new addition and had to cancel their trip to see up this past week. Hopefully, we will get to visit in July. ...

Hope you are all doing well. Sending loving thoughts...
Jim Sondra

Happy St. Patty's Day

Wishing a happy St. Patrick's Day to all you lads and lasses.  Like many others I have visited Ancestry.com and taken the swab test.  Seems we ARE IRISH after all.  My test showed 28%, and in doing a little research I found that we have two sets of Third great-grandparents on the Kane side who were born in Ireland and came over in the 1850's.  Check out the movie, BROOKLYN, if you haven't seen it.  This could be the story of our ancestors.  So down a pint for John and Bridget Foley and the as yet undiscovered parents of Patrick W. (a/k/a William P.) Kane, all of whom were born in Ireland.
If anyone can add to this list, let's hear from you.

Gators swamp the Hurricanes

Baseball has started with a Bang as the Gators swept Miami last weekend.  It was a great series, but the Gators were just too much for the Hurricanes.  With luck they will meet again in Omaha.  Congrats to all you Gator fans.

It's A Celebration

There are many milestones in our lives - birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, births, etc.; some more remarkable than others.  We recently celebrated one of those remarkable milestones in our home.  In January, Georgia completed her 20th year on dialysis.  She has been without a working kidney for over 29 years.  This 20-year anniversary is celebrated by a very few number of dialysis patients, as the mortality rate for dialysis patients is 25%.  It has been Georgia's remarkable courage, strength, and fortitude which has held her up through all those years.  I am very proud of her and hope you are also.
