On this Memorial Day I would like to thank all of those who are presently serving or who have served in the military. You have served in order to defend our Freedoms and our Lives. We are not exactly a military family, though we have had members from at least three generations wear the uniform. Dad, of course served in the Army during the second world war and I believe that mom's brother, Tom, served as well and lost his life in the war. I am not sure as to our uncles Bob or Harold, who would have been of age. Mike, Neil, and Antar served in the Air Force and Tim served in the Marines, all during the years of numerous wars in the Middle East and around the world. (Antar is also currently serving as an EMT and a member of the Fire Department in Chatahooche, Fl.)
And now, currently serving are Tim, who is taking over from his father in the Air Force, and Claire, who has recently or will in the near few weeks take her commission in the Marines, following in her father's footsteps. All of these family members deserve our sincere thanks for defending our country and our personal freedoms.
There may be others in the family who have served or are presently serving and I would wish that if any of you know of these deserving family members, please sign on and let us all know who they are.
And lest anyone forget, we do have a relative who served in the Civil War, that and man was Comfort La Rue. Born in 1846, he enlisted in the Union Army, joining Company C of the Ohio 135th Infantry Regiment on May 13th 1864. He is buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery.
So again, thanks to all of you who proudly wear or have worn the uniform. You have our deep gratitude.
