Asheville Get Together

June 15-20, 2026

Greetings from Asheville

Ruthie, Rosanne, Susie, Joy and I got together on Monday, June 15th and Kathy joined the fun on the 16th.  Larry graciously opened his home to us while he was away in Omaha at the College World Series with Bobby.  We enjoyed many hours of stories, catching up, game night, good food, and the ever present laughter.

Tuesday morning we had breakfast with a black bear.  She stayed for about 2 1/2 hours much to our delight.  She sat and ate in and around Larry's raspberry bushes, getting up from time to time to roam about until the reason for her dawdling appeared - 2 young cubs ran into the backyard and off they went for their next adventure. The cubs were too fast to get a picture! 🙁🐻

Before Kathy arrived on Tuesday, we went to the Botanical Gardens:

Wednesday we all visited the Asheville Nature Center:

 

On Thursday we traveled to the Demming Cabin (Whittier NC) and had such fun touring the lovely home Kathy and Tim have built up in the mountains that also has a beautiful creek running outside their doors.  For dinner we went into Sylva and toured the town a bit and then ate at the Mad Batter.

Friday we celebrated Ruthie's birthday - happy 80th! Kathy hung out at her cabin and the rest of us eventually made it into Asheville by way of the Tobacco Barn - Antiques!  Had a fun lunch at the Rosetta Kitchen and discovered The Love Cats shop - and we all do love cats. Will definitely have to re-visit it!

Saturday Susie drove out early to GA; Ruth, Joy, and Rosanne headed back to Charlotte where Joy and Rosanne had flights for home; Kathy flew out of Asheville for home; and I stayed at Larry's hanging out with Mobey and Brigitte until Larry returned from the CWS.
