i think it would be fun to write down memories of mom or dad... things which might be unique to yourself growing up
for ex
dad’s unique whistle to call us home (i liked your comment larry)
rosie had mentioned meals with tomato/rice
or meat on toast
mom telling WD if they were to open on Sunday she would shop somewhere else
i weirdly have begun making iced tea to drink in the afternoons(mom always had a cup of iced tea close by) i know that’s not genetic but where did that come from?
mom and her convertibles and the bug - you could see the joy in her eyes when she drove those
baseball or golfing memories. does anyone remember leaving a marlins game, running to the car after it was over and Bill running into a huge backstop and flying backwards?
just thought it might be fun

"got you last til midnight" playing that it seems like every night with mom and dad sitting in their lawn chairs in front yard.
mom teaching me how to do a cartwheel in front yard one night. i still love doing them. and she also taught me how to do a back bend in the front yard.
Dad's stories about the "Ruthie doll." Dad slowly taking off his belt and telling you that you were getting a spanking; doing it so slowly you ran away...which is what he wanted anyway! Giving Mom a kiss before going to bed as she watched TV in her room. Not figuring out that the reason Mom could always hear us being too loud after bedtime was because our room was directly above the kitchen. Dad bringing home a surefire boy kitten/puppy from Uncle billy that seemed to always end up being a girl. Dad putting the lights on the Christmas tree and having a hard time. Dancing on Dad's feet to Lawrence Welk or one of Dad's records. Going somewhere on Sunday afternoons with dad so Mom could have some peace and quiet....
Speaking of WD, I remember it being a "treat" to go shopping with her. We always had two shopping carts full of food; I still stack the food in the carts to minimize space and, at check out, always separate the cold and frozen items from the rest.
My love for Halloween costumes came from dad and mom dressing up for the K of C parties. My favorite costume was them dressing as His and Her bath towels, mom wearing the His and dad wearing the Hers.
Your post brought to mind the old Mashta House on Key Biscayne; while most of you don't remember it, I'm sure Mike will. The house had been abandoned before we arrived on the Key, but we would ride our bikes to the end of the island and fish off the seawall. We would also roam through the house, climb the broken staircase to the roof and watch the Manta Rays swim by in the bay, climb down to the lower level with access to the water. It was the site of the only Mass held on the Key and I believe that dad and mom might have attended there once or twice. It was in the "Moorish palace" style, with its own private deep water lagoon. Since we left the Key, the house has been renovated, the seawall reconstructed, a swimming pool added and recently sold for $47 million. The Google search "Mashta house on Key Biscayne turned up some beautiful photos, past and present. It was originally built by the Matheson family - the same family that donated the land to the county for the Tennis Center across from the Crandon Park entrance. Many fond memories.
Having a hard time picturing Mom wearing a towel out of the house! Would love to have seen a picture of that. Dad doing it? Totally believing that!
Sue, just think of a pillow case; two white towels sewn together with head, arm and leg holes with the words "HIS" and "HERS" sewn on.
